PRAGUE -- The merging of automakers has not led to much-needed brand consolidation, and more mergers and acquisitions will need to happen to achieve this, Philippe Houchois, an analyst at Jefferies, told the Automotive News Europe Congress in Prague.
“We as financial analysts have been asking for more consolidation for 25 years, but not enough consolidation has happened,” Houchois said.
Pointing to the creation of Stellantis through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, Houchois said the consolidation resulted in the revival of the Lancia brand rather than a reduction in the brands of the two companies.
