Carlos Ghosn
CEO, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi
TITLE: CEO
COMPANY: Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi
BASED: Paris and Tokyo
AGE: 64
NATIONALITY: Brazilian/Lebanese/French
CAREER HIGHLIGHTSAfter 17 years with Michelin, Ghosn joined Renault in 1996 as an executive vice president. Three years later he became Nissan's chief operating officer after Renault took a controlling stake. He was named CEO of Nissan in 2001, a post he held until 2017. He has been Renault CEO since 2005 and is also CEO of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
REASON FOR WINNINGIn 2018, Ghosn stepped away from most day-to-day operational duties at Renault to concentrate on ensuring the long-term durability of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, by some measures the world's largest automaker by vehicle sales. He has done that by taking steps to knit the multicultural and multinational alliance even closer together to increase synergies and efficiencies. In March, Ghosn announced the creation of cross-company teams to oversee product engineering and development, business development, innovation, and aftersales, among other areas.
